Music Introduction – Holy Spirit

11190359_698413300304824_1333498382_nIG: _psalm23_4

It’s been two months since my last song intro. I had actually written one around midnight a while back but my mac started acting funny and deleted it and I had not saved it before hand. But the past is the past and here I finally have a new post!

So, if you’ve read the title to this post and the words on the image above then you’d know that todays song is Holy Spirit by Francesca Battistelli. Goodness I adore her name don’t you? F-R-A-N-C-E-S-C-A   B-A-T-T-I-S-T-E-L-L-I. Beautiful. And her voice! It is so soothing I just love it!

I first heard this song in the car with my mom one day when we were doing “errands.” Ladies if you’re on the same page as me then you know “errands” mean several hours shopping at TJ Maxx or Target. We had stopped at Panda Express to get some lunch and on our way back home we were flipping through the local stations and the SiriusXM  stations when I heard one of my favorite old Christian songs on K-LOVE.

After my song was over, this slow paced song came on and I instantly wanted to change it. Not that I have anything against slow Christian songs I was just in the mood for something more upbeat. I reached to change the station but my mom swatted my hand away cause she wanted to hear the song. At the time she thought it was something else haha.

So she turned up the volume and I instantly started to memorize the lyrics. This song was actually perfect to listen to as we drove past our local college under all the pretty trees. It was nice to have the sun roof down and my head leaning back watching the trees fly by.

Holy Spirit is one of those songs that just grasps your soul to the core and makes you feel everything on a munch deeper level. It is beautifully written and a must hear. I highly encourage you to listen to it on one of your days where things don’t seem to be going right or when its quiet and you just want to hear a good Christian song.

Hear it. Love it. Buy it.

Blessings, Sarah

Summer Nights

So in my last post I said that where I live in California it’s been pretty cold and stormy. Well I can happily say that the weather has finally returned to normal. With the heat of the summer comes BBQ’s, pool parties, beach trips, camping trips, and road trips. The skies are clear and God’s creations are even more beautiful.

“The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.” 1 Corinthians 15:41 NIV

Why stay cooped up inside when God blessed you with warm weather and marvelous beauty? Now that’s just not right. Your’e taking nature for granted. Everything changes in time and who knows how long it will take before the beauty that is right there in front of you turns into something unsightly. Trees die, flowers wilt, water gets dirty, and the air is no longer fresh. Pretty soon the beauty that once was will fade, and you will definitley regret not enjoying nature when you had the chance.

“The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground…”        Genesis 2:9 NIV

I think people need to get closer to the people around them. Like the old days when neighbors would invite their neighbors over for parties or families would go and do things together. Maybe you still do those things, I do not know, but if you don’t there’s a time for everything.

Plan a beach trip! Bring your towels and swim suits and some tanning oil and just enjoy the crashing waves. When it gets dark, make a bonfire and pray and read some of the Bible out loud. You could even bring a guitar or a ukulele and play some worship songs.

What about camping or going out to the lake for a day? Bring your bug spray and some tennis shoes and take a hike. Marvel at the sight of the gigantic trees and breathe in the fresh mountain air. Bring your swim suit and go cliff jumping into the fresh water. Or take your boat out and have a blast with an inner tube. When it gets dark just look up into the starry skies and admire the stars that He put in the sky and give thanks to God for such artistries.

You can even have a BBQ or a pool party in your own backyard. You don’t need to go anywhere far away to enjoy God’s creations with family and friends. Getting together is a pleasure that many people take for granted these days. You don’t want to regret not spending time with the people you’re close to.

That being said, make some plans this summer to just soak in the Lord’s exquisite creations. I hope I inspired you and gave you some good ideas.

Blessings, Sarah

Stress Battle

Summer is upon us but if you live in the part of California that I do then you’d know we’ve been having some pretty weird late May weather. It’s usually in the 100 by now and is dry and hot but these past 2 weeks it’s been windy and rainy and the sky is always covered with dark clouds. Don’t get me wrong I love the weather because it reminds me of the coast but I’m starting to miss my sun.

If you’re a highschool student like me then you know the end of May means finals (and sadly saying bye to your senior friends.) And stress comes with finals. A lot of it. Your teachers might give you thick study guides with a billion questions on them that need to be answered and half of them aren’t even on the test. And you might have a teacher who’s wife just had her baby and he’s been gone for a week and you have no idea what’s going on because the sub doesn’t have a lesson plan. You didn’t finish your book in class so you have to read it all on your own cause that’s what the final will be about. Plus there’s a 100 question study guide for that plus a bunch of other papers that need to be filled out.

That’s just a little glimpse of the stress I’ve had the week before my finals. I slept for 12 hours and when I woke up I decided to write this blog post for you guys.

He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed.
 Mark 6:48-51

I’m sure you’ve heard the story of Jesus walking on water. If you haven’t well I encourage you to read all the verses before and after this small preview of Mark 6 and Jesus’s amazing ability.

When I read this I immediately thought about me stressing for final exams. But this could be for anything not just highschool/college tests. This is for every day things.

When you’re straining in life you need to take a deep breath and pray a little prayer. Try to calm down your mind and relax a little bit. With God’s help this can be an easy task.

God is our rock. He stands firm and when we are stressed out we’re  slipping and sliding everywhere. We need to go to God with everything. But remember you still need to work hard. You can’t just give zero effort because “God will provide me with all the answers and a great grade.” That’s not how it goes. He provided you with an extraordinary mind that is capable of obtaining information. You need to study and you need to complete all of your study guides and you need to finish that book that was never finished in class.

God will just give you peace of mind and an extra push to get your work done. He won’t give you the answers. It doesn’t work like that.

I wish you the best of luck on your final exams. Study hard and when you’re stressed out just remember to ask God for help.

Blessings, Sarah

I CAN DO ALL THINGS

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me Philippians 4:13

Here’s a little fun fact about me, I am a cross country runner. But my main love is soccer and right now cross country isn’t in season and soccer is so I haven’t been on a +5 mile run in a long time. Last time I ran that much was maybe November… I’m not sure.

Yesterday I went to visit my grandma and we went shoe shopping for my dad and when I was browsing the shop I came across these really bright neon New Balance running shoes and I just HAD to have them. I was in need of a new pair for a long time so my dad said alright and bought them for me.

So this morning I decided to go running. I was really pumped up and excited to get back to running. I am in shape but not in the perfect shape that I would like to be. So me not being in my normal runner’s shape kind of scared me because I didn’t know if I would be able to run for a long time.

I got dressed in my black under armour spandex, my old cross country invitational t-shirt, and laced up my new shoes then headed out the door. I decided that instead of running down the canal next to the orchards all the way to White Barn (an actual barn painted white that’s abandoned and old) I’d run to the park by Monte Vista Chapel.

So I set off in the direction of the park and I did really good for it being my first 1-2 miles. Once I was at the park I went down the hill next to these people playing ultimate frisbee. I really wanted to play with them and I think some of them could tell but I didn’t ask and they didn’t invite me so I started my hills. I did some lunges, some bear crawls, and some side lunges.

Then it was my time to go back to my house. My legs started to feel heavy like cement and a small side cramp started to form but I shook it off and called to God for help. During cross country season I would always pray and call to God before, during, and after my training and my meets. I constantly repeat “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” And today I did the same thing. I repeated Philippians 4:13 and had a conversation with God and myself for about a mile or so.

Guess what? I CAN do all things through Him. I preserved and was able to run about 4 miles maybe more. It felt amazing to do that. I’m so excited for cross country season to start soon. Training starts at the beginning of the summer and I’m counting down the weeks. My cross country team is like my second family and I do see them every day and talk to them but it’s not the same as running with them every day.

your body is a temple of the holy spirit 1Corinthians 6:19

That being said I highly recommend that you take care of your body which is a temple of the holy spirit. Go for a run, a jog, even a walk. Do some yoga. Lift some weights. You might say you can’t do anything exercise wise but you can because you can do all things. Eat healthy! Try out the nicecream recipe I posted a while back. Keep your temple strong and nourished.

Music Introduction – Come to the River

Yay! First song intro on my new blog! I’m very excited about doing these because I am a music junkie. I will admit that I do listen to secular music. Alternative is what I enjoy the most, so you might notice that the songs I share have an Alternative vibe.

The song I chose today is one that has been stuck in my mind for the past couple of days. It is such a lovely song sung by a woman with such a lovely voice. If you look on YouTube it’s titled:  Come to the River- Housefires II (Featuring Kirby Kaple). The song is 9 minutes and 20 seconds long and it’s such a masterpiece that you would wish it was longer!

Come to the River is the type of song that makes your skin breakout in goosebumps. If you’re like me and get very emotional about a song then you just might even shed a tear.

oh my soul thirsts for you and you alone

Seriously. With this song every ounce of blood, every bone, every cell in your body will thirst for our amazing creator. You will forget everything and just look up to the Lord and sing these lyrics and praise Him.

Come to the River is such a strong spiritual song. I highly recommend you look it up and tell me your opinions. Have any requests? I’d love to hear about them.

God’s Not Dead

But God demonstrated his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 NIV

Today is good Friday! For those non-christian readers out there you might not know what exactly good Friday is. Well, good Friday is the Friday before Easter Sunday also known as Resurrection Sunday. It is the day that Jesus Christ was crucified and died for YOUR sin. Only He, and He alone, could be the one to die and save you and me.

So why is it called “good” Friday if someone died?… Isn’t that sad and to be crucified such a painful way to die?…

Well yes. Yes it is very sad but if you look at it from the Christian point of view it is a VERY good day not a bad one. Jesus died to save us! The “good” is that we are all sinners and we would have to endure pain for eternity if it were not for God’s grace. Giving his one and only Son to sacrifice himself to free us from our sin is such a great demonstration of the amount of love God has for us.

And now coming up we have Easter Sunday. This is an even greater day because He was risen from the grave. On the third day of His death, Jesus was found to be in fact alive and well. He died and came back from the dead just as He said He would.

I highly recommend you go to your local church this Sunday. Absorb the beauty that is God’s love for us and be happy! Gods not dead he is surely alive!

Blessings Sarah

No! It’s not made from milk. In fact it is one hundred percent vegan. Now I am by no means vegan at all but I stumbled upon this glorious recipe a while back called NICEcream. It is soooo scrumptious. You wouldn’t be able to get enough of it once you try it.

On Saturdays I like to make it because it is when I have the most time. I’ll make it real quick then get out my Bible and highlighters and start reading and absorb everything. I have tried two different flavored nicecreams. My absolute favorite is the raspberry one. Although if you pair it with chocolate nicecream it’s absolutely delicious because they are two very distinct flavors that go together quite nicely.

What you need are 2 bananas that have been cut into circles and frozen. It’s best to do this over night so you can have some nicecream for breakfast. You also need another type of frozen fruit if you don’t want it to be plain banana. I chose to do raspberries but you could do cherry or mixed berry.  Whichever you prefer.

When you want to whip up this nice treat you just got to pop the frozen banana chunks and fruit into a blender or food processor and let it blend together until you have a thick creamy texture. If you would like to make chocolate nicecream then u can take a couple teaspoons of cocoa powder and put it in instead of the fruit. And voila you’re done. It’s very simple.

Now what better Bible verse fits with the topic of fruit other than Galatians 5:22-23?

The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Enjoy the beautiful delicious delicacies the Lord has given you. Just eating the things of the earth without any artificial sweeteners or processed things are so good for your body which is a walking and breathing temple for God. Nourish your body with good things. Not just fruits and veggies but also good feelings and of course the word of God. You will feel great!
